This is a bit disingenuous, it's been unseasonably dry and mild in Vancouver this last week, but I'm sure it will be dark and wet again in no time.
Has everyone seen A Year Without Santa Claus? I think that it maybe didn't make it on TV up in Canada when I was a kid, I didn't see it until a few years ago,
So I've opted out of Christmas this year (I'm having kind of A Year Without Santa Claus myself, hur hur) and it is a real relief. I'm staying in Vancouver by myself and I'm away from my family for the first year ever. On Christmas Eve I made myself a lil' chicken and went alone to a bar. On Christmas morning I'm eating eggs with back bacon and playing videogames.
Hope things are going nice for you guys this holiday season!

Mermaid Kingdom begins filming; China dives into fantasy films?

Drawings for Mermaid Kingdom on imdb
The long rumored “Mermaid Kingdom” (official: Empires of the Deep) is said to have recently begun filming. The Huayi (?) co-production will feature Monica Belluci, Liu Ye, Hu Jun and Yu Na and tells the tale of a young man stumbling upon a kingdom under the sea. According to sohu, special effects creation for it begun three years ago.
This isn’t the only large-scale fantasy film to be made in 2010. Shengshi’s adaptation of online novel “Xing Chen Bian/星辰变/Change of Fate” and an adaptation of Guo Jingming’s novel “Ice Fantasy “ are both major upcoming films that will require tons of special effects. The first is set in a videogame like world that involves fighting against hordes of magical animals, having a best friend bird that can eat up lightning, and going to a heavenlike place in an alternate universe. “Ice Fantasy” stars the prince of the Ice Kingdom. His wife is a mermaid, and members of his entourage include a Guzheng player who creates illusions by playing music.

Yes to redying your hair black, no to the bangs.
Jane Zhang sung her new song “I believe” live for the first time yesterday. “I believe” is her first album song to be penned by her (lyrics and maybe music?). Jane writes about her experiences since being an artist and how “I believe” came about. This song is definitely a step up from her previous non-themesong music, and I hope it’ll be representative of her album.
Once I played an unimportant role…. Suddenly, one day, everyone around me looked at me, and that made me scared… So I was always hiding. Sometimes, when there are too many eyes starring at me, to the point where I can’t see past beyond them, I would close my eyes. Too foreign a place, too many foreign faces, too many foreign paths.

Just a few days ago, Magic 1+1 appeared on an episode of Kang Xi Lai Le. Curious like everyone, host Cai Kang Yong asked what does “Magic 1+1” mean, and Xiao S immediately answered without thinking, “3!” Guan Da confirmed that 1+1 does equal to 3 in the world of magic. Although the joke was lame, Guan Da definitely surprised everyone with his magic tricks.
Magic 1+1 performed their latest single, “Eyes Wide Open.” They lipsynced, but filled the 50 seconds performance with a load of magic tricks. Xiao S asked in the end, “What happens if you guys have to perform the entire song? Wouldn’t that make you very busy?” General manager, Sun De Rong, replied, “Yes, magic would be performed throughout the entire song. They even have magic tricks where they make a girl disappear! It’s actually quite expensive to have them perform the song all the way through because we would have to carry / deliver all the props to the performing site.”

As in previous years, the season is dominated by blockbusters, such as Zhang Yimou's A Simple Noodle Story, which has raked in 200 million yuan (29 million U.S. dollars) in two weeks, although the film was not highly praised by critics.
Teddy Chan's Bodyguards and Assassins, costing 150 million yuan and featuring more than 10 stars, took 74 million yuan on its first weekend.
Domestic films screened during the season still lack variety. Costume dramas and kungfu films are still the most popular genres, comprising at least eight movies. In addition, most of them lack a solid storyline, but instead feature a stellar cast or a famous director.
Things get better in January and February, when viewers can pick from science fiction, romantic comedies and a detective story.
China's film market has been booming. The annual box office gross has increased over 20 percent each year over the past five years and reached 4.3 billion yuan last year.

I analyze and I verify and I quantify enough
100 percentile no errors no miss
I synchronize and I specialize and I classify so much
Don't worry 'bout dreaming because I don't sleep --
I wish I could at least 30 percent
Maybe 50 for pleasure then skip all the rest
If I only was more human
I would count every single second the rest of my life
If I just could be more human
I'd have so many little babies and maybe a wife
I'd roll around in mud and have lots of fun then when I was done
Build bubblebath towers and swim in the tub
Sand Castles on the beach, frolick in the sea, get a broken knee
Be scared of the dark and I'd sing out of key
Curse when I lost a fight, kiss and reunite, scratch a spider's bite
Be happy with wrinkles I got when I smile
Pet kittens 'till they purred, maybe keep a bird, always keep my word
I'd cry at sad movies and laugh 'till it hurt
I'd buy a big bike, I'd ride by the lake
And I'd have lots of friends and I'd stay out too late
If I could just be more human
I would see every little thing with a gleam in my eye
If only I was more human
I'd embrace every single feeling that came in my life
Would I care and be forgiving?
Would I be sentimental and would I feel loneliness?
Would I doubt and have misgivings?
Would I cause someone sorrow too? Would I know what to do?
Will I cry when its all over?
When I die will I see Heaven?

So as it stands now, it is NOT going to the credit card company. I am saving it. Don't know what for but just saving it. I made the deposit last night.
Yesterday the CEO/company gave us all raffle tickets, then we were all gathered for the giving away of various prizes. They gave away gift certs and things like that. I got a $50 gift cert for a nice seafood place on the beach. Another lady won the 52" TV, someone else got the laptop, another person the Wii and two others got iPods.
Monday was a catered lunch also courtesy of the company.
I am still working the crazy hours. I have to work tomorrow but will be out at 5pm. From there, I am going to visit with my friend Sue and her DH. And then Xmas I am off and it's dinner at bro's.
I am just blessed. My head is still reeling after getting that check. And the best part of all? I didn't have to PROVE how deserving I was, I just work a helluva lot of hours willingly and then some. Guess all that work has paid off.

Sherman Chung held a celebration for her song "給自己的信" (A Letter To Myself). EEG's executive Ng Yu and management Mani Fok also showed their support by attending the event. They gave Sherman a bunch of flowers. Ng Yu will help promote her in climbing up the ranks to become EEG's No 1 Sister. The reporter asked how she feels about becomin EEG's No 1 Sister? She laughed and said "I am still like a newcomer. It's like starting from primary school going on to high school. I have yet to graduate and need to continue working hard".
Yesterday Sherman Chung held a celebration for her song "A Letter To Myself" winning 6 golden song prizes. EEG executive Ng Yue, Mani Fok and a group of EEG singers celebrated with her. Ng Yue instructed Sherman to continue to work hard and "rise", becoming EEG's #1 Sister. Mani gave her a huge mysterious gift and laughed saying that gift is bigger than Charlene Choi's tickets, balloons and greeting card that she gave earlier.
When taking pictures, Sherman couldn't hold in her tears, Deep Ng who was besides her helped her wipe the tears away and gave her a hug. Sherman said: "Deep Ng had always gave me great advice in music, I treat him as my senior." Deep expressed that he treats Sherman like his real sister and hopes that EEG could arrange them to collaborate.

Holiday debuggery
We know there were a few kinks with the holiday promotion. We've been working very hard to get them ironed out. If you have a paid/permanent account, keep on sending those coupons. Here's an update:
- If you were unable to send out multiple coupons at a time, please perform a hard refresh, and you should be good to go.
- If you redeemed a coupon to upgrade your account and the balance at checkout was $0 instead of $9.95 or $15, this means your upgrade did not go through (nor were you charged). We've straightened this out, so you can now apply your holiday coupon toward the purchase of an annual paid account.
- If you tried to redeem a holiday coupon and had trouble using a gift certificate to cover the balance of an annual paid account, we identified the root problem. If this happened to you, you can now use your holiday coupon together with your gift certificate.
- If the number of holiday coupons you have available suddenly goes up (instead of down), this might be due to recipients declining the coupons, at which point your pool of available coupons will be replenished and, therefore, increase.
- If you need assistance with holiday coupons or pretty much anything else (well, LiveJournal related), please open a support request and we'll be more than happy to help!
Tweaks
- There were some initial glitches displaying results on My Guests, but we've worked them out. We hope you'll check out who's been checking you out!
- Some of you reported formatting issues using the Rich Text Editor (i.e., line breaks were being removed incorrectly). We've implemented a fix! Thanks so much for your patience.
Give a little extra!
We're pleased to report that we've already sold over 100 virtual red ribbons in honor of National AIDS Awareness month. For their new album, each of the 4 members of Da Mouth has dyed their hair pink, sapphire blue, purple, and bright red.For this process, they spent about 60 hours in the salon, and their company forbade them to wash their hair for fear the color would wash out.
The male lead vocal Harry spent 8 days dying his hair. To ease the pain, he kept telling himself that blue hair was handsome, but the process still felt painful. His toil was rewarded however as the half-korean Harrry was praised as looking similar to Lee Jun Ki.
Rapper MC40’s had three streaks buzzed off his fiery red hair, giving him a futuristic effect. DJ Chung Hua’s previously long hair was cut significantly shorter and dyed purple at the tips. And for the first time female vocal Aisa sported a short pink bob. Although it is a wig, it is made out of real hair and is valued at $2000 NT. Aisa, who loves pink, exclaimed, “Kawaii! I love it!”

A Scottish cartoon, since I am back home for the holidays.
I'm well acquainted with the tune "Lord Lovat's Lament," since you hear it around these parts every time anyone has to pick up a fiddle and learn something. But you know, it's one of those tunes you know so well, you pay no attention to it, it's just there in the back of your head.
Then one day, I was looking up a bunch of works by Hogarth (the best) and came upon this portrait of 'Lord Lovat'. The lovely old tune and that devily face, they didn't match. So I wanted to learn more about him!
Lovat (Simon Fraser, born 1697 - there are about a million Simon Fraser Lord Lovats) really epitomizes how reading Scottish history can make you want to tear your eyeballs out, or laugh because it's nearly a farce it's so nutty. Either the people involved are disastrously loyal, or disastrously duplicitous. Everything is a disaster, but it's a hell of a ride.

Leehom Wang said that he chose the song because it matches the theme of the Taipei gallery (at the expo), which is “The Power of Smile”. Additionally, he felt that Teresa Teng is the most influential singer in Chinese-speaking regions.
As the goodwill ambassador, Leehom Wang volunteered to produce the theme song “I Smile When I See You”. He also participated in the promotional film, in which it combined video with lyrics to show Taipei’s famous features such as beef noodle, fireworks at the Taipei 101, the night market, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, and more. Yesterday, news broke out that Super Junior member Han Geng submitted a formal application to court, wishing to terminate his contract with management company SM Entertainment. This left the public very puzzled and fans also did not understand why he took this action. But immediately after this, SJ-M’s ‘happy gate’ scandal was exposed, and left everyone thinking whether this whole contract termination ordeal is just to cover up SJ-M’s scandal and divert the public’s attention.
SJ-M is Super Junior’s 3rd sub-unit, designated to target the Chinese market. Under Han Geng’s lead, SJ-M have developed successfully in China, and they even have their own exclusive fan club. Recently, SJ-M attended various award ceremonies in China & Taiwan. On the 19th of December, the 53rd Asia Pacific Film Festival was held in Kaohsiung and SJ-M were invited as special guests. The whole process seemed to go very smoothly, however a 6.8 magnitude earthquake suddenly struck Taiwan and became the fuse of the ‘happy gate’ scandal.
After the awards ceremony, during an interview, SJ-M member Zhou Mi laughed saying: “When the earthquake struck just then, it was just like playing.” Moreover, Zhou Mi even used last year’s Si Chuan earthquake as comparison, saying: “Last year, when we were promoting in China, we also met an earthquake, and it was pretty happy.” And Han Geng who was beside him immediately rushed forward to clarify: “He (Zhou Mi) doesn’t mean happy.” However, it was too late, as everything was already recorded by the media.
After the scandal was exposed online, SJ-M have remained silent. When reporters contacted SJ-M’s performance representative, he said that he is currently on vacation, and is unclear about the situation, and is also inconvenient for him to disclose anything. And SJ-M’s Korean manager has yet to answer his phone.
But coincidentally, yesterday, all the major Chinese news sites published the Han Geng contract termination news at almost exactly the same time. And according to one of the new site’s entertainment editor, she revealed that the news was provided by SJ-M’s side, and that they even specified the location to where the news would be published to make it as eye-catching as possible.

KUALA LUMPUR : Taiwanese beauty Lin Chiling lost a Longines watch and other accessories worth a total of 200,000 Taiwan dollars (S$10,000) after her luggage was pried open while she was in Malaysia.
The actress flew in from China aboard a China Airlines flight and arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport at around 10pm local time on Monday. She was in the Malaysian capital to promote her latest film "The Treasure Hunter" in which she stars with Taiwanese singer Jay Chou.
Luggage for business class passengers are usually processed and go through customs ahead of baggage of other passengers. However, Lin's luggage only appeared with her entourage's eight other pieces of luggage almost one hour after her flight touched down.
Lin did not notice anything wrong with her luggage until she got to her hotel room, where she discovered the locks on her luggage had been pried open and damaged. She immediately informed a representative of the local film distributor and got them to contact the customs office.
Lin expressed through her manager that she was a little unhappy about her loss, lamenting that "there were no problems the day before in Beijing but how did (her items) vanish in Malaysia?"
"Chiling has always been very careful. We had no problems even after travelling to so many places yet this time her luggage was the only one out of our nine pieces of luggage that was stolen from," said her manager.
The 35-year-old model-turned-actress who made her movie debut in John Woo's 2008 historical epic "Red Cliff", plays Lan Ting, the love interest of Jay Chou's character Qiao Fei in "The Treasure Hunter".
The pair are in Singapore on December 22 to promote the film about a group of adventurers who race against time to protect an ancient treasure from an international crime syndicate. It is slated to open in theatres on December 31.
